Swelling Of Hands And Feet

Swelling Of Hands And FeetPlease help. Staphylococcus systemic hands, feet, swelling of the face?

I have a close to the hospital to treat a staph infection high. They have her on an antibiotic for IV therapy. Does this mean it is systemic? They have changed the type of antibiotic to another today. They got on mophine yesterday because of surgery to remove the staphylococcus. She has a huge headache and it has now swollen hands, feet and face. What the hell is happening? I'm never there when the doctor is to ask questions.

Being on an IV antibiotic does not necessarily mean he is suffering from a systemic infection, it's just that some antibiotics can be administered intravenously. Others may be administered orally (aka PO), while others may be given IV or PO. If she has a MRSA infection (Staphylococcus aureus resistant to methacillin) and is an IV antibiotic, it is more likely to vancomycin. Morphine is an analgesic, not an antibiotic. Swelling could mean many things, it could be the infection itself if it has skin and soft tissue infections, it could be that she is on a lot of IV fluids and retain water, or it could be an allergic reaction to antibiotics or other drugs, it is running. Only a doctor can tell you with certainty. The next time you're there, talk to the nurse and if they can answer your questions, ask if you can meet with her doctor.
