This is mainly because the surface of stainless steel is nonporous and food scraps and chemicals to cleaning can not fit into the holes of small area as they do with other types of barbecues. However, stainless steel is not magic, it still needs special care for the surface to look good and stay in mint condition.
When first using a new stainless steel grill, remember to remove the transparent film from the surface and give it a good washing with warm soapy water.
