Redbook:
U.S. retail sales fell 1.3 percent during the first four weeks of September compared to August. According to Redbook Research latest indicator of national retail sales. The decline in the index was stronger than the targeted 1 percent decline, according to the report. The Johnson Redbook Index also showed seasonally adjusted sales in the month-to-date increased 1.4 percent compared to September 2007, which was slightly less than the 1.7 percent target. On an unadjusted basis, sales for the week ending Sept. 27 were up 1 percent from the same week in 2007, after gaining 1.2 percent the previous week. September is a month of five weeks in the retail calendar ending October 4.

Consumer confidence
U.S. Conference Board September consumer confidence came at 59.8 versus August reading of 58.5, Conference Board presented the expectations index was 60.5 in September versus August reading at 54.1; Conference Board September Location current index is read from 58.8 to 65.0 in August
