Drew Barrymore's first film was a success as whip must girl power "and it turns into a good dose of fun. Although I would not say Barrymore has any kind of flair and style separate from work immediately She chose a perfect project to start his first time out and it looks like they have a shot at making it.
Ellen Page plays Bliss Cavendar, a small town girl from a life of beauty contests and working as a waitress in the town Oink with absolutely nothing to distract her until she saw three girls on roller skates and Babe Ruthless is born. Bliss soon joined the Roller Derby team known as the Hurl Scouts, and escapes to his life in a small town Bodeen, Texas, to roll with people like Maggie Mayhem (Kristen Wiig), smashley Simpson (Barrymore) Eva Destruction (Ari Graynor), Rosa Sparks (Eve) and Bloody Holly (Zoe Bell). His main rival Iron Maven played by Juliette Lewis.
The cast is when Barrymore won the audience more than the script based on the novel and adapted by Shauna Cross Cross itself is nothing more than any other sports movie cliche you've seen. But the woman-centered, Roller Derby twist in all this is an element of surprise to anyone who does not usually an abandoned warehouse for a good old Roller Derby. I do not know about you, but I knew that the sport exists, but as far as how it was played I was clueless.
Whip It follows Bliss travel under the thumb of his controlling step mother played by Marcia Gay Harden, as she could play, naively try to force the hand of his daughter without realizing that it is simply repulsive. Play Bliss father is Daniel Stern, who gets the most sympathetic "Choose your battles" role, but its done so that you realize Cavendar family is not dysfunctional as a group they are in a phase learning and you become an emotional bond with the look of middle age, both Bliss and his parents.
Page views his role with an uncertainty apt that works well in the early stage enabling it to grow in the Derby Girl, she becomes and the smiling faces that surround it becomes infectious, not only bliss, but for the audience. You can understand his interest and it seems like a natural choice for a character we first meet a beauty contest where she lost her hair after death payment on a challenge.
Apart from teammates Derby has already been mentioned, the best friend of Bliss and co-worker played by Alia Shawkat Pash, probably better known as Maeby from "Arrested Development", and Carlo Alban plays his manager called Birdman Oink Joint. Birdman and Pash hardly need to explain that their names are already doing much for them, but Alia Shawkat plays the perfect boyfriend and Alban adds a dose of style to a scene if necessary. However, male carriers of the flame on this film, Jimmy Fallon as Derby announcer "Hot Tub Johnny Rocket and Andrew Wilson is the name of Wilson proudly Razor, frustration Hurl Scout trainer. I had to wait to see his name in the credits before I am 100 percent positive that it was Wilson, but once I saw his name I recognized his small role in the future Bottle Rocket man. As I said, excellent casting.
Lack of interest in trying to find a more intelligent sounding word, Whip It is just a fun movie. Filled with food fights and the nature and black stripes of a sport filled with unknown faces, smiling women you can not help but keep you entertained for an hour with two stages of operation. As familiar and stereotypes that the story is, the approach separates it from the pack. Give it a shot and make a movie date night and you.
