Hearth Pads

I have to install a floor protection for the EPA fireplace I want to install. Can I just tile or marble hearth, or are there other requirements to make it fireproof?

Check with the manufacturer fireplace insert, or consult a contractor or a county building department.

Here's how to think of a noncombustible floor protection. If an ember jumped out of the fire, would the surface it lands on ignite if it is not long fire at once?

If you plan to marble, make sure it does not leave stains burn if it touches something hot ...

Anything that will not easily ignite ... tile or marble is good. Slate or stone surface, too.
