Galfer Brakes

Galfer BrakesHelp I can not get my 1200 FJ to stop!?

I currently own a 89 Olde FJ1200.non ABS. Love the olde boy, but stopping it is really a challenge. I talked to a guy named Dean on FORUM FJR and he suggested I try here. I thought that maybe new brake lines Galfer SS Brake Shoes better after market, could be the remedy, but suggested that the retro-fitting some of them are guys with the new calipers R1 R1 and master cylinders. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO! My real question is, what year R1 parts will I looking for and will they bolt to the existing legs or do I change the front forks as well. And I suppose, while I wonder if I need to change the front fork, what year should I buy. Any / all input would be greatly appreciated. Dave

Can you squeeze the brake lever until it touches the handle? If yes, you are the brake lines are the problem. With age, they ball when you apply the brakes and thus apply less pressure on the brake piston. I put stainless braided lines on both of my bike, you can not believe how much better they now work.

Some non-slip pads better than others, especially when wet. I like sintered metal pads, those are bronze, rather than organic pads.
