Why the history of BMW motorcycles Means adventure for you

If you like the BMW brand like me, your pleasure of society is not complete without a brief history of their motorcycles. Over the years, I found that only a handful of people are aware that BMW made motorcycles. Being so totally captivated by current models of BMW cars, BMW motorcycles have become a sort of poor relation "red" from the company.

But, I intend to change that image now.

Between 1920 and 1922, the Bavarian Motor Work made their first two-stroke motorcycle engine three port. At only 148 cc, this engine was affectionately called the Flink. With the engine mounted in front of the pedal, the first model was more like just a bike.

BMW had to start somewhere and its design was as good as anywhere.

Initially, the head of BMW design engineer Max Friz was. Known for being demanding and not be content with things as they are, Max has presented the new BMW R32 at the Salon de l'Automobile in Paris in 1932. This model became famous for its blue paint and white.

Developments such as the pressed steel frame, telescopic fork, tubular frame and telescopic rear suspension were all significant advances from 1935 to 1939. Can you imagine how different the path must feel at the time "old" no modern tires and suspension? Ouch.

1955 was really the next step for the BMW motorcycle. The production models for the RS racing bike with the frame of the pivot has been introduced.

Do you know what the "slash five has been in the history of BMW?

Probably one of the most important upgrades BMW motorcycles were held in 1970 with the development of the "slash five series. The R50 / 5 R60 / 5 R75 / 5 engines have all the same time with different displacements. In addition, all these models have ignition point. In 1979, these models have been put to rest and abandoned.

A new era begins for BMW motorcycles in 1980.

If you listen carefully to the sounds of history, we can hear his prowess as they applauded the latest enhancements such as suspensions to update, strengthen management and electronic ignition replaced the points. High-performance Brembo brakes and the elimination of heavy flywheel for a carrier clutch stamped steel, have been major advances in time
.
Why these changes to the BMW motorcycle?

It comes down to money. If BMW wanted to continue in the business of riding, it was mandatory that these changes to be more competitive with Japanese and European motorcycles. In fact, the model 1981 was much better than previous versions that the market for used BMW motorcycle was completely destroyed.

The fact is, everything is on BMW excitement and adventure.

You can prove this for yourself in this small study of the history of BMW. The GS series motorcycle was introduced in 1981 and immediately called the "Adventure Touring Bike". The concept of the "Adventure Tour Market" began with the BMW R80G / S. And what an adventure it has been since then.

From 1985 to today, progress has been made. Unfortunately, this story will have to wait and be one of my next articles.

For now, my friend, you're ready for the adventure of a BMW motorcycle?
