* It is painless and you can do in your own home.
Research Data
Data from clinical trials on blue light therapy has revealed that it is a promising acne treatment. Patients participating in the study received treatment for acne blue light in session several, each lasting about 15 minutes. Many, but not all, have registered significant improvement after treatment, with approximately 55% clearance. Side effects were mild and included short-term pigment changes, dryness and swelling of the treated area.
Taiwan: Thirty-one patients with acne on both sides have received blue light acne treatment on one side, while the other received no treatment. The treatment was administered twice a week for four weeks. Ultimately it was concluded that blue light acne treatment is effective if the patient suffers from cystic acne, which often worsens when treated with blue light.
United States: Twenty-five patients with inflammatory acne were treated with light therapy blue on one side (8 sessions in 4 weeks) and clindamycin, second (twice daily for 4 weeks ). Ultimately, the researchers compared the results for both treatments. The side treated with clindamycin showed an improvement of about 22%, while the blue light treatment showed an improvement of about 40%. However, after 8 weeks of no treatment, clindamycin side had maintained the best results.
Israel: Three separate studies, 10, 13 and 25 patients with inflammatory acne have been conducted to measure the effects of acne treatment blue light. In all three studies, over 80% of all patients responded well to treatment, showing between 59% and 67% improvement.
Japan: 30 patients with mild to moderate acne received a treatment for acne blue light twice a week for five weeks. For 80% of all patients, the lesions decreased by approximately 64%. The rest of their experience negative or no effects.
Unfortunately, the number of people involved in these studies is too small. In general, clinical trials to test new treatments include hundreds or thousands of patients. Considering the small numbers involved in blue light acne treatment studies, no statistically valid conclusion can be drawn. However, these studies reveal that blue light therapy has positive effects on some people with acne. It gives better results for inflammatory acne and may not be safe to use on patients with cystic acne lesions.
