HKAFO is an aid to prescription. An orthopedist or physiatrist usually write a prescription for, in collaboration with a physiotherapist. They are very expensive and require many, many adjustments. They are not as bulky or heavy as in the past, but they are always ugly and left the aircraft and it requires much training and patience to walk with a degree of grace. Their primary function was as a support rather than a training / therapy. Which require constant and close supervision extended by a therapist.
